Chypre Tabac Imperiale, my third composition; a superposition of the sublime and the bold, following the path laid before it.
Overarching doses of tobacco materials, balanced with a complexe of florals, animalics and oud oils composed in proportions to give off an emergence of the early 1900s tabac, but viewed through a cleaner lens where Tobacco is viewed as an architecture rather than sweetness. A chypre built to play an impaeriale virtue to the blonde elegance of the 1920s and the floral tobacco haze of the 30s, without reenactment; rather a respectful extension.
Chypre Tabac Imperiale is built around the tension of blond tobacco and dark chypre gravity, where Satkhora, native to Sylhet, opens the structure with a thick bitter-green citrus, metallic flare, before tobacco absolute and tobacco flower unfold through a fruit-floral chypre bridge, braided with wild Maroke oud, jasmine sambac, and tuberose. The structure gradually turns quieter and deeper as a handmade natural leather accord tightens the silhouette. The Wild Maroke oud sits deep in the mid-base as a dry, suede leather fur, extending the transition into darker woods without being trivially “Oud”. While Yugoslavian oakmoss, labdanum, and Siberian deer musk grains set the throne beneath it, with wild civet paste lending its human pulse, until in the far drydown the whole composition converges into a long, controlled descent of suede, fur, and skin.
Where 𝗣𝗘𝗔𝗨 𝗗’𝗢𝗥𝗥𝗜𝗦 was my exploration of the intimate space, i.e the scent of skin upon skin, Chypre Tabac Imperiale is my exploration of the salon i.e polished air, suede gloves, mossed exoticism, and tobacco held with restraint. A structure guided by heritage yet pushed forward through precision: Maroke Oud, Mysore sandalwood, oakmoss absolute, a handmade natural leather accord, labdanum, ambrette seed oil, aged castoreum tincture, and Siberian musk tincture; each material given its place through time and patience for something trivial, yet complex for the abstract mindspace.
